Bolognese Potatoes with Cheese

Have you ever thought of that? Bolognese potatoes! It's super simple and so good, just add a little cheese and you've got the perfect dinner.



For the potatoes, you will need:

2 pounds potatoes, cubed

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon oregano

6 tablespoons olive oil

1 teaspoon salt

For the sauce, you'll need

1 1/2 pounds minced beef 5% fat

1 onion, finely diced

2 medium carrots, finely diced

2 garlic cloves, finely grated

1 tablespoon tomato paste

1 beef stock cube

1 teaspoon basil

1 teaspoon oregano

18 ounces passata

2 ounces grated mozzarella cheese

Salt and pepper to taste.


  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.
  2. Sauté the onions and carrots in a frying pan until soft, then add the garlic and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly.
  3. Add ground beef and cook until brown.
  4. Add the tomato paste, stock cube (diluted in a little hot water), herbs and passata and cook over a low heat for at least 30 minutes (the longer the better).
  5. Meanwhile, mix the cubed potatoes with the seasonings and oil.
  6. Bake the potatoes in the oven at 200°C for 30 minutes or until golden and crisp. 
  7. Top the bolognese with the cooked potatoes and add the grated cheese, then place in the oven on grill until the cheese is melted and golden. Serve hot. Enjoy your meal!


Potato cubes: To ensure even cooking, try to cut the potatoes into uniform-sized cubes. This will help them cook at the same rate and prevent some from becoming overcooked while others remain undercooked.

Cooking time (potatoes): keep an eye on the potatoes while they're in the oven. Cooking times may vary depending on the size of the cubes. You can check for doneness from 20 minutes and adjust the cooking time accordingly. The potatoes are ready when golden and crisp.
